About the Blog

In the late 19th century, a minister from upstate New York USA took frequent walks along the Niagara Escarpment to enjoy its breathtaking natural landscape and Lake Ontario. As a result, he wrote a poem “My Father’s World,” stanzas of which were selected and set to music after his death. In part he wrote:

This is my Father's world: I rest me in the thought / of rocks and trees, of skies and seas; his hand the wonders wrought.
This is my Father's world, the birds their carols raise, / the morning light, the lily white, declare their maker's praise.
This is my Father's world. O let me ne'er forget / that though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet.

According to the Bible, God speaks in words (Holy Scripture), in the world (his creation), in events (his providence), and in the Lord Jesus Christ (God come in the flesh). The written Word interprets the world and events. As we experience the every day events of life, God the ruler gives glimpses of himself and his ways that point us back to Scripture for instruction. I invite you, dear friends, to join me in "everyday theology for thoughtful people."
